The Chicago Winds played the abbreviated 1975 season of the WFL at Soldier Field as the rebranded continuation of the 1974 Chicago Fire. The Winds opened the second WFL season with hopes of stabilizing the franchise but folded after just five games — even before the league itself suspended operations in October 1975.
The Winds' midsummer collapse was one of the earliest warning signs that the second WFL season would not finish. Chicago would not host another major-league challenger franchise until the USFL Blitz arrived in 1983.
